SG-SKILL

SG-SKILL (Skill-based education for smart-grids job profiles) is a European Erasmus+ Blueprint project aimed at strengthening Europe’s workforce for the digital, green and resilient transformation of electricity grids.

As power systems evolve towards higher shares of renewable energy, increased electrification and advanced digitalisation, Smart Grids are becoming a cornerstone of the European energy transition. This rapid transformation is creating new occupational profiles and changing existing ones, generating an urgent need for new technical, digital and transversal skills across the energy sector.

SG-SKILL responds to this challenge by fostering structured cooperation between higher education institutions, vocational education and training (VET) providers, research centres, industry stakeholders and sectoral associations across Europe.

Objectives

Identify current and future skills needs

in the Smart Grids sector, addressing technological, digital and organisational changes.

Define and update job profiles and occupational standards

relevant to Smart Grids, ensuring alignment with real industry needs.

Design, develop and deliver innovative education and training programmes

for both higher education and VET, combining technical, digital and transversal skills.

Support upskilling and reskilling of the existing workforce

as well as the training of future professionals entering the energy sector.

Strengthen cooperation between education and industry

improving the relevance, quality and attractiveness of Smart Grids-related careers.

Establish a long-term skills strategy and governance model

to ensure the sustainability and scalability of project results beyond the project lifetime.

Erasmus+ EDDIE project

The project builds on the results and lessons learned from the Erasmus+ EDDIE project cand aligns with key European initiatives such as the European Action Plan for Digitalising the Energy System, the EU Action Plan for Grids and the Net-Zero Industry Act, contributing to a more competitive, sustainable and resilient energy sector in Europe.
